Terms of Use

These Terms of Use set out the conditions for using the website Tokyo Anime Pilgrimage & Merch, together with the maps, route building, location information and other services provided through it. Please read them, and use the service only if you accept them.

Article 1 — Scope

These Terms apply to every aspect of the relationship between the user and the operator concerning use of the service.

Where the service carries separate conditions, notices or guidelines, those also form part of these Terms.

Article 2 — What the service provides

The service mainly provides the following information and features.

  • Information about real-world places that appear in anime (“locations”)
  • Lists and descriptions of locations, by series and by area
  • Searching and displaying locations on a map
  • Building and displaying model routes from the series you choose
  • Mentions of shops selling anime merchandise, within the route guides
  • Showing information based on your current location
  • Letting users submit photos and location information, and publishing them
  • Links to outside websites and map services
  • Other pilgrimage-related services the operator provides

Features may be added, changed or withdrawn without notice.

Article 3 — The information published here

The operator makes every reasonable effort to keep the information accurate and current.

Even so, it does not guarantee that anything here — which places count as locations, opening hours, prices, transport, facilities, shops, or how a street looks today — is accurate, complete or up to date. Identifications of places from a series are not limited to officially announced ones; some come from research and from what users tell us.

Please check the official sources — the venue, the shop, the transport operator, the local authority — where it matters.

Article 4 — Maps and route building

The maps, distances, timings and model routes are offered as a starting point for planning a visit.

The route builder assembles a route automatically from the series and conditions you choose, using the location data held here. By its nature it can get things wrong: the order of stops, the timings, which places are combined, which stops are chosen, and other details.

Treat the route it produces as a draft for your own planning, not as instructions to follow. Before you set out, check each place yourself: opening hours, closing days, whether you may enter, and how to get there.

Road conditions, traffic restrictions, disasters, works, weather, opening hours and crowds can all make the real journey different.

Follow the actual road signs, traffic rules and on-site guidance, and satisfy yourself that it is safe before you move.

The operator’s responsibility for accidents, loss or other consequences of following a route shown here is as set out in Article 13 (Disclaimer).

Article 5 — Location data

Parts of the service use your device's location, with your agreement.

Whether to allow that is your choice.

If you do not allow it you can still browse locations, build routes and use the other basic features, but some things — such as filling in the coordinates of a spot you are submitting — will not work.

How location data is handled is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Article 6 — Outside services

The service uses, and points to, services provided by others: maps, route search, analytics, social media and so on.

Each provider's own terms and privacy policy govern the use of their service.

The operator makes no guarantee about the content, availability, safety or dealings of any outside service.

Article 7 — What users submit

You may submit photos and location information. In doing so, you accept the following.

  • You may only submit photos you took yourself, or content in which you hold the copyright and any other rights. Do not submit anything you do not hold the rights to.
  • You permit the operator to publish what you submit, to resize, crop or blur it for display, and to use it across the language versions of the service.
  • Submissions are reviewed before publication, and the operator may decide not to publish.
  • Please do not submit photos in which other people are recognisable, or photos taken where the venue prohibits photography. Where someone is recognisable, the operator may blur that part before publishing, or may decide not to publish at all.
  • If you want something taken down, contact us at the address on the contact page.
  • You represent and warrant to the operator that you hold the rights needed for what you submit, and that it infringes nobody else’s rights.
  • If a submission infringes someone else’s rights and the operator suffers loss as a result, the user who submitted it bears that loss.

Images found on the internet, photographs taken by someone else, and stills, artwork or posters from the anime itself are not yours to give, so they cannot be submitted. Please send photographs you took on site yourself. Note that the operator’s decision to publish something is not a check on, or a guarantee of, the rights in it.

Article 8 — When you visit

Many of the places described are station passageways, shopping streets and parks that people use every day. Some sit right beside operating businesses, homes and private property.

Please do not block the way, and be considerate of residents, customers and staff.

Each venue has its own photography rules. Follow the signage and whatever the venue tells you.

Article 9 — Prohibited conduct

You must not do any of the following when using the service.

  • Anything unlawful or contrary to public order and morals
  • Impersonating anyone
  • Accessing the service without authorisation
  • Placing excessive load on the service's systems or network
  • Improperly analysing, altering or interfering with the software
  • Obtaining or using the information here for improper purposes
  • Copying the content without permission and publishing it as a similar service
  • Submitting photographs, images or text in which you do not hold the copyright or other rights — including images obtained from the internet, photographs taken by others, and stills, artwork or posters from the anime itself
  • Submitting false location information
  • Infringing the rights or interests of other users, the venues and shops described, rights holders, the operator or anyone else
  • Anything else the operator considers inappropriate

Article 10 — Intellectual property

Copyright and other intellectual property rights in the text, photographs, images, design, logos, software and other content here belong to the operator or to the third parties properly entitled to them.

Rights in the anime themselves — titles, character names, images, audio and the rest — belong to their respective holders. This service provides information about the real places behind those works, and guidance for visiting them; it does not reproduce the works.

Except as the law allows, you may not copy, republish, alter or redistribute this content without the rights holder's permission.

Photographs and other material submitted by users are governed by Article 7.

Article 11 — Reporting an infringement

If you believe something published here infringes your copyright, your image rights or any other right of yours, please contact us at the address on the contact page.

Please tell us the URL of the page, what right you say is infringed, and how to reach you. We will look into it and, where we judge it necessary, take the item down promptly.

We respond in the same way when a venue, a shop, a household or anyone else connected with a place asks us to take its listing down.

Article 12 — Changing or suspending the service

The operator may change or suspend all or part of the service in the following cases.

  • Maintenance, inspection or updates
  • Disaster, power failure, communication failure or other events beyond its control
  • An outside service stops or changes how it works
  • Any other case the operator judges necessary

Article 13 — Disclaimer

The operator does not guarantee that the service is complete, accurate, useful, uninterrupted or fit for any particular purpose.

The operator does not guarantee that routes built here, submitted material or other data will survive unchanged: failures and changes to how the service works can lose or alter them.

Except where the operator has acted intentionally or with gross negligence, it is not responsible for loss arising from your use of the service, or from being unable to use it.

Where the operator is nonetheless responsible, that responsibility reaches only direct and actual loss of the kind that ordinarily arises. It does not extend to lost profits, lost business opportunities, lost data, claims brought by third parties, any other loss arising from special circumstances, or indirect loss.

Where you follow a link to another site, the operator does not vouch for its content, its availability or its safety.

If a dispute with a third party arises out of something a user submitted, that user resolves it at their own cost and responsibility.

Disputes between a user and a venue, shop, transport operator or other third party described here are for those parties to resolve between themselves.

This Article does not apply to the extent the law provides otherwise.

Article 14 — Changes to these Terms

The operator may revise these Terms when the law changes, when the service changes, or where it is otherwise necessary.

Where a revision is significant, it will be announced on the service in an appropriate way.

Article 15 — Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the law of Japan.

Except where the law provides otherwise, any dispute concerning the service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction, at first instance, of the Japanese court for the place where the operator is located.
