Privacy Policy
This policy sets out how information collected through Tokyo Anime Pilgrimage & Merch is handled.

What we collect, and why
This site has no accounts and no sign-in, and never asks for your name, address or phone number. What we collect, and why, is set out below.
- Browsing records (pages viewed, device type, how you arrived). Purpose: understanding how the site is used, and improving it.
- What you enter when building a route, and the route produced. Purpose: showing the route, saving you from re-entering the same answers next time, and seeing which features are used.
- Location. Purpose: setting the coordinates of a spot you submit, and confirming a check-in. We only take it when you press the button that asks for your current location. It is never collected in the background.
- Photos and spot information you submit. Purpose: reviewing and publishing them on the site.
For ordinary browsing we do not store IP addresses or browser details. Submitted photos are re-encoded for display, so the Exif data in the original file — including the time and place it was taken — is not kept. Enquiries reach us by email without passing through this site, so the site neither receives nor stores them.
Sharing with others
We do not pass the information we collect to anyone else, except where disclosure is required by law or ordered by a court. Use of the outside services listed below is separate from this.
Cookies
The cookies this site uses, what they do and how long they last are listed below. Those marked “only after consent” are not set until you agree.
- lang (365 days) — remembers your display language — needed for the site to work
- tourism_traveler_token (730 days) — brings back the answers you gave last time, and lets you reopen a route you made — needed for the site to work
- tourism_trip_token (90 days) — holds the route you are building — needed for the site to work
- cookie_consent (12 months) — records whether you agreed — needed for the site to work
- tourism_visit_session (2 hours) — groups the records of one visit — only after consent
- tourism_source_qr (2 hours) — records that you arrived via a QR code — only after consent
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga and similar) — analytics — only after consent
If you do not consent, you can still use the site as normal: your language is remembered, you can build routes, your previous answers come back, and you can reopen routes you made. Nothing stops working. You can also turn off all cookies in your browser, but then the features above will not work.
Consent, and changing it
The first time you use this site, we ask whether you agree to analytics and usage recording. Until you agree, Google Analytics is not loaded and no recording cookies are set.
You can change your choice at any time from “Cookie settings” at the foot of the page. If you withdraw consent, we stop recording from that point on.
This applies in the same way to everyone, not only to visitors from the EU and the UK.
Analytics and outside services
This site uses the outside services below. For what each of them collects, please see the provider's own page.
- Google Analytics 4 — Google LLC — purpose: analysing how the site is accessed and used — loaded only if you consent — what it collects: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245
- Google Maps Platform — Google LLC — purpose: showing maps and directions — what it collects: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- OpenFreeMap — purpose: map tiles — provider: https://openfreemap.org/
- Google Cloud and Firebase Hosting — Google LLC — purpose: serving the site and storing its data
Maps talk to Google and OpenFreeMap in order to draw themselves. That happens when you use a feature with a map in it, and is separate from the consent above. If you want to stop Google Analytics from your own device, Google's opt-out add-on is also available (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). For how Google handles what it collects, see Google's policy (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).
Advertising and affiliate links
This site currently carries no advertising and uses no affiliate programmes. If that changes, the providers involved may use cookies to show advertisements based on your interests. We will add their names, and how to opt out, to this page at the point they are introduced.
You can opt out
If you would rather not provide information, disable cookies in your browser or stop using the site. Submitting photos or spot information, and sending an enquiry, are all optional.
Access, correction and deletion
This site holds nothing that identifies a person, such as a name or an email address. Enquiries come to us by email and leave nothing on the site.
To have a photo or spot you submitted taken down, or to raise anything else about how information is handled, please email us. Including something that identifies the item — the URL of the page it appears on, for instance — lets us act on it reliably.
Changes to this policy
We may revise this policy to follow the law and official guidance, or because the site itself changes. A revision takes effect when it is posted on this page.
