- Secondhand shops are where the goods are：Durarara!! aired in 2010 and 2015, so new merchandise is not sitting on shelves year-round. The realistic plan is working the secondhand shops around Otome Road, such as the K-BOOKS buildings and Lashinbang Ikebukuro. If you are hunting something specific, two hours will feel short.
- Opening times vary：Animate Ikebukuro Main Store opens in the morning, while many of the secondhand shops on Otome Road open between 11:00 and 12:00. That is another reason the route starts shopping around noon. Hours change, so check each shop before you go.
- Animate is a minute off Sunshine 60-dori：You will pass it while walking Sunshine 60-dori. Glance at what is on display in the morning, then come back in the afternoon.
- A series where the changes are part of the fun：Ikebukuro West Exit Park and the Nitori building (Tokyu Hands Ikebukuro when the show aired) both changed a lot afterwards. Shooting the same framing and comparing shows how much the city moves.

These are the places to work through in the two hours the route sets aside at the end. All are within walking distance of Ikebukuro Station’s east side and overlap with the locations themselves. Hours and stock change, so check each shop’s official site before you go.
- Animate Ikebukuro Main StoreOn Sunshine 60-dori, directly across from Naka-Ikebukuro Park. One of the largest selections of new anime merchandise in Japan, with frequent fairs and collaboration displays. Start here for currently airing or recent titles.
- Otome Road (Higashi-Ikebukuro 3-chome)The street on the west side of Sunshine City, lined with secondhand and resale shops such as the K-BOOKS buildings and Lashinbang Ikebukuro. For series that aired years ago, like Durarara!!, this is where the goods actually are. Most shops open between 11:00 and 12:00.
- Sunshine City (Alpa)The shopping complex housing Pokemon Center MEGA Tokyo and other character-goods stores. It connects directly with the Spanish Steps and Higashi-Ikebukuro Central Park stops.
- Yuzawaya WACCA IkebukuroThe place for cosplay fabric and craft supplies, a short walk from Naka-Ikebukuro Park, and a location in My Dress-Up Darling.
If you still have walking in you
The series’ locations are scattered far beyond these seven spots. The Mutsumata overpass, the Minami-Ikebukuro area and the back streets of Higashi-Ikebukuro 4-chome and 5-chome are all places dedicated visitors return to. Many of them sit close to homes and small shops, so keep the photography low-key.

Most of the spots listed are station passageways, shopping streets and parks that people use every day, so please do not block the way. The underground passages at Ikebukuro Station get very busy during the morning and evening commutes. Sunshine 60-dori and Sunshine Central Street are lined with operating businesses, so avoid lingering in front of shopfronts to take photos. Each store has its own photography rules. Business hours, tenants and streetscapes change over time, so details here may differ from what you find on site.
