TOKYO ANIME PILGRIMAGE & MERCH

Durarara!!

デュラララ!!

The six Durarara!! locations are all in Ikebukuro, within walking distance of the station. Start at 9:00 and you finish the loop by noon, just as the merch shops on Otome Road open.

About the series

The real-life setting of Durarara!! is Ikebukuro, Tokyo. An ensemble story that opens with Mikado Ryugamine arriving in Tokyo and being shown around Ikebukuro by his old friend Masaomi, alongside Celty the Headless Rider, the information broker Izaya, the unstoppable Shizuo Heiwajima and the colorless gang known as the Dollars. The city itself is the real main character, so the filming locations are not landmarks but station passageways and ordinary shopping streets. This guide lists all seven stops in visiting order, with times and Google Maps links.

Walk the streets early, shop once the stores open

Where to buy anime merch in Ikebukuro

These are the places to work through in the two hours the route sets aside at the end. All are within walking distance of Ikebukuro Station’s east side and overlap with the locations themselves. Hours and stock change, so check each shop’s official site before you go.

If you still have walking in you

The series’ locations are scattered far beyond these seven spots. The Mutsumata overpass, the Minami-Ikebukuro area and the back streets of Higashi-Ikebukuro 4-chome and 5-chome are all places dedicated visitors return to. Many of them sit close to homes and small shops, so keep the photography low-key.

Pilgrimage etiquette and things to know

Most of the spots listed are station passageways, shopping streets and parks that people use every day, so please do not block the way. The underground passages at Ikebukuro Station get very busy during the morning and evening commutes. Sunshine 60-dori and Sunshine Central Street are lined with operating businesses, so avoid lingering in front of shopfronts to take photos. Each store has its own photography rules. Business hours, tenants and streetscapes change over time, so details here may differ from what you find on site.
